Because Japanese is such a complex language, and many people simply want to learn some phrases to survive, I’ve decided to start the first beginner’s lesson with some useful phrases!
Basic phrase for “Good Morning!” Add “gozaimasu” for emphasis and politeness.
Commonly used phrase for “hi!”
Used for evenings only. Used as a greeting.
Used when you’re going to sleep.
Thank you very much!
Literally : I started/we started. Used when meeting someone for the first time.
Literally : Please treat me well! Also used when meetin someone for the first time.
[When you meet someone for the first time, it is common to say "Hajimemashite. Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu!" This is the English equivalant to "How do you do! Nice to meet you"]
Expression meaning “I’ll leave and come back.” Used when leaving the house as a goodbye. Only used when you have intent to return.
Response to “ittekimasu,” meaning “please return”, or “please go and come back.”
Expression used for returning home. i.e., walking in the door after work, or returning from class. Similar to saying “I’m home”
Response to “tadaima”, meaning “welcome home!”
There are a few Japanese phrases for you to practice througout your day! The next lesson will focus on the Japanese writing system. What does it constist of? What are the uses of the alphabet? We will also take a look at one of the alphabets, specifically.
Since this is my first blog, and first lesson, I would kindly appreciate anyone’s comments! Any teaching advice? Would you like to see more?
P.S. Those seriously interested in learning Japanese should consider buying a textbook! It makes it much easier to study! The textbook I used to study in my college level courses can be found here. It’s a great textbook, and is beginner friendly! I highly recommend it!
